This book is historical fiction, a true story about a small team of US spies located in Germany who had the mission to stop the Soviets from building directed energy weapons which would lead to Soviet dominance over the US and the world. Portions are fictionalized because of security classification and the fact some of the participants, including the author, are still alive.
The Cold War was an unstable stalemate, threatening mutual annihilation if the US and Soviet Union attacked each other with nuclear armed missiles. Neither nation had a defense against an intercontinental nuclear missile attack.
The Soviet Union was committed to build and deploy directed-energy weapons (lasers, charged particle beams, x-ray beams) which could shoot-down all incoming US intercontinental nuclear missiles. The Russians poured billions of rubles into the project and assigned the top scientific brains and leading institutes to develop and deploy an effective anti-missile system.
If the Russians developed and deployed an effective directed energy anti-missile system, the Soviet Union would win the Cold War and dominate the world.
The US team in Wiesbaden Germany had the mission to stop the Russians from developing an effective anti-missile system and enable the US to win the Cold War (2024).
